One of the tasks I have completed this week is writing my articles making sure that I had all important information that needed to be put in my article this task ran a bit over as I didn't expect to take as much time writing my articles as I have. I have completed writing both my Apple Products review article and my Grand Theft Auto 5 review article. After completing these articles I went back through them and my research to make sure all I had the most relevant information in my article. Also this week I went back through the article I had already wrote about Piracy and made sure that there are no changed which needed to be made I have now handed all three of these articles in for marking this.

Over the weekend I had another brief look at fonts I am going to use for the headlines, sell lines in my magazine however I am going to have to allocate more time to look some fonts I have already downloaded and are ready for use but extra time is needed for this part of my project. Underneath is an example of one of the fonts I will be using in my magazine:

Another task which I said I would complete this week is setting up the page layouts for my Apple Products review DPS and Grand Theft Auto 5 DPS. I have set up the page layout for my Apple Products article putting in the correct number of columns, correct top, bottom, inside and outside margins and I also put the draft of my article into the double page spread this task was time consuming as I had to make sure that I had put all the correct sizes in for my pages or else I would of had to start again. I have only just begun to set up my Grand Theft Auto page layout on Indesgin as one of the lessons this week the computers were freezing and this prevented me from being able to set up my page.

Branding Objectives

What is the genre of your magazine? What are you informing your audience about? How will it branded? What are the connotations of your branding decisions? What are the connotations of the magazine’s name?

My magazine is based around the technology genre. In my magazine I am going to talk about a range of things surrounding technology, I am going to review a game, talk about apple products and also look at piracy I feel that having a range of articles will attract a lot of people from the 16 to 24 age group as the content of each article differs more people will be interested to read them also each article is something which a lot of people in this age group will be able to relate to. I will brand my magazine using a range colours such as red, blue, and black I feel this will show which gender my magazine is aimed towards. These colours will make my magazine look energetic and powerful this is something, which I want my magazine to come across. Also blue is associated with expensive products, which is something technology can be related to. My magazine name is Invention, I have chosen this as my title as it means creating something new and that is also something which technology is about, creating something, which doesn’t already exist, or creating something similar to a product but improving it.

Audience communication objectives
Who is your audience? Identify: tribe, socioeconomics, and age, gender split.	My magazine is going to be targeted towards more males than females. They will be students as many students use a form of technology on a day-to-day basis this means they will already have an interest in technology before reading my magazine. As my articles are about games and apple products I think having a big age gap means people from a younger age will be interested in game reviews and older people will be more interested in Apple products as they are more likely to use them. The socioeconomic grouping for my magazine is A, B, C1 C2 some who earn their own money and some who still rely on the status of their parents I think the range of articles I have used will suit this audience, some articles which involve expenses and others don’t. My tribe is real gamers as these are the type of people who keep up to date with the latest technology. My gender split is 64% male and 36% females I think this is a good split, although it is more males which are involve with technology some females are also interested in so female will be my secondary target audience.
Your unique selling point	In my magazine I am going to carry on the Northern Echo’s family friendly feel I think this is an appropriate unique selling point as my magazine is being produced as a supplement of the Northern Echo so all Northern Echo readers will get a copy of my magazine free with the paper. Also using this as my unique selling point will help my magazine appeal to a wider audience.

Overview
Description of front cover and contents page Content. Imagery to be deployed: metaphorical, ideal, window to the future self	I want he front cover of my magazine to be energetic and invite the reader in, I will do this by using bright colours such as reds and blues. My main image is going to be a female using an apple product. I will have my model posing also using a female will attract a male audience to my magazine and having an apple product on the front cover will be my window to future self as having the best products are something which females like to see . I have chosen to use image relating to this article, as it is my main feature article. The title of my magazine will be at the very top of the page reading from left to right so that it is the first thing my audience will read also have chosen to use a red as it is a bright colour and it is also easy on the eye, the font I am going to use is a plain, bold font, posing no difficulty on for the reader. Another thing which I think this font does is help brand my magazine as well as this the name of my magazine also helps brand it. On my front cover I am going to stick to a 3 colour pallet using red, blue, and white I think these colours will all stand out well against each other and using reds and blues will make my front cover active. The type of sell lines I use on my front cover will differ I am going to use questions and rewards. Using a range will attract different audiences from my age group and gives them more reasons to read my magazine. As it is my front cover my text to image ratio will not be balanced but I think my main image will draw my reader’s attention in well, as will my sell lines.
Double Page 1 Title, content and article type	On my first double page spread I will be looking at Apple Products. In this article I will be looking at what effects Apple Products have had on the Modern day and how they are advancing quicker than any other company also I will be looking at the pros and cons of them, how they are made and what their plans are for the future and future products. This article will attract both my target audience, some of my secondary target audience and a chunk of the Northern Echo’s audience as Apple products are very popular with everyone so many people will be interested in reading about them. My text to image ratio will be 60/40 with the bigger part of the ratio going to images as I want to use images to entice my reader in this article. I am going to use 2 columns, as I want my images to attract my audience for this double page spread. I want my images to attract my audience as My title is ‘Apple Products Review’ which doesn’t really sound attractive to the reader so using a lot of images will attract attention to my double page spread and make the audience want to go on and read my article. On this double page spread I am going to take images of 2 Apple Products the new IPhone and also an Apple Mac. Also I will add another image of the Apple logo to add more of a visual aspect to my double page spread. My imagery will be studio based as I will need to use appealing images if they are going to be the way I am going to attract my audience. My title will go from left to right so that it is the first thing the reader see’s this will tell my reader what the article is about also making them want to read on into my article. I will make the title of my article very bold, in a sans serif font, also in a blue as it will be the first thing the reader will read so it needs to look attractive and enthusiastic. I am going to use first and second person in my article as I think this is a good opportunity for me to create a relationship with readers who use apple products in this article. I am going to use first person as well as I will give my opinion on products I have used. I will be adding statistics in my article, which I have found out from doing my own research. Also I will still be sticking to the three colour rule as this is something else which is going to help me attract attention to his article, I think having more than three colours with a lot of images may look like there is a lot going on and put some readers off.
Double Page 2 Title, content and article type	My second double page spread is going to be based on the issue of piracy. The title for this double page spread is going to be: Everybody’s a Pirate. I think this article will engage with a lot of my target audience, as many people in the 16-24 ages will have illegally downloaded something before this will straight away create a relationship with my audience. I feel like this article will be good as it is something different from what other technology magazines talk about. In my article I am going to use a range of language features. I am going to use first person as in my article I am informing my audience, also I am going to use some 2nd and 3rd person as I want to create a relationship with my reader. The style of my article would be a serious tone as it is serious article about piracy this will help make it obvious to my article that it is about an issue, which should be taken seriously by my target audience. In my article I am also going to use statistics what I have found while doing my own research. I am going to make my article length a long as I will have a lot of information to put into this article as well as this I will use extended vocabulary as I think it will be appropriate and go well with the long paragraphs. Each paragraph will have between 12-15 lines and I will split this up by using 2 columns per page however this may cause problems as it may look like a lot for the audience to read. I will split this up using a breakout box and an image. I am going to create my own image using Photoshop, I will use a skull and cross bones as this connotes pirates which will relate back to my article title also in my image I am going to use a matrix text which looks similar to downloading something I think this is good as it is something different from what other magazines do. The background for this double page spread is going to black as it is quite a dark article, using black will make my images, title, and text stand out more on the page also doing this will make my article look different from a white background with black text. For the title of my article I am going to use a font which is easy to read but also catches the readers eye I will do this by using a red font and giving it a while outer glow I will put my header at the very top of the page going left to right as this is where the readers eye first looks and if they read my title they will want to find out what my article is about as my titles doesn’t give much away.
Double page 3 Title, content and article type	The title for this article will be: Grand Theft Auto 5 review, this title doesn’t entice the reader however, I think this article will still gain a lot of interest as it tells the audience straight away what the article is going to be about as well as this it was a game what many people were waiting for, so people will be interested to what others have to say about it. I also think the kicker for my article is going to help gain interest. The kicker for my article is: Is this Britain’s best game? My audience is a British audience so this will interest them. I am going to talk about the background behind Rockstar the people who created the game, any problems that have been created in real life relating to the game, and also what I think about it. I am also going to talk about improvements the game has made from past games and what I like about it and in my breakout box I am going to put opinions of other people around the same age of my target audience who have played the game. My text to image ratio will be even as I am going to use two columns and two images this will make it look like there isn’t as much for my audience to read making them more likely to read my article. For my main image I am going to dress a model up in similar clothing to what the characters in the game wear I think this will make my DPS look more active, I will also add another image of the Rockstar logo to help split up my text. For this article I am going to use a font similar to the one on the cover of the game, as this font will make my article look more interesting.  In this article I will be talking in 1st and 2n person, as this is another chance for me to create a relationship with my readers, as the game is popular especially with people around the ages of my target audience.

Distribution objectives

Invention will be distributed as a supplement of the Northern Echo and will be regional I have chosen this strategy as the Northern Echo reaches all of the North East and my magazine will be distributed with the paper once a week. The Northern Echo’s circulation is 36,740 this means I will have to print around 50,000 to 60,000 so that it reaches everyone and that there are also more copies to go into local newsagents. I am going to sell my magazine at 15 pence this is because my magazine is a supplement this means most of my income will come from advertisements. The size of my magazine is going to be A4 as I have looked at other professional magazines of the same genre and this is the most common size. My magazine will be 12 pages long and will cost £3814.2 to print, a third of my magazine will be advertisements this is a lot of room which will bring in more money as well as leaving enough space for articles to interest my reader.

Visual Aesthetics
Story control Objectives	On a whole I would like to create a relationship with my reader. I want to do this as creating a relationship with my reader will encourage them to come back and buy my magazine again also doing this makes the customer feel the need to by loyal to my magazine. In My Articles I am going to include the writers opinion of the topic, doing this tells the audience something about the writer and will help the readers to get to know them. My articles are going to be very formal as I want to inform my readers about certain things when they are reading my articles. I am going to use a matey tone as I think doing this will help my readers feel like they have a relationship with my magazine also my magazine is aimed towards more males and using a matey tone will be more appealing to them.
Image content objectives	My text to image ratio will vary, I will try to keep it balanced but in some of my double page spreads the larger part of the ratio will be with text as well as entertaining I am trying to inform and educate. Using images will help me keep my audience entertained while reading my articles this is because of the visual aspect of an image. Also using a female on my front cover as the centre of attention will attract males to my magazine. I am going to use a range of imagery in my magazine. My images are going to be studio based, natural images, as well as this I am going to create my own images using Photoshop. Using a range of styles for my magazine is similar to other professional magazines of the same genre.
Language Control Objectives	My article types will differ a lot but will be similar when trying to create a relationship with my reader. I will try to use minimal colloquial language as my magazine is a supplement of the Northern Echo and using colloquial language will not suit the style of the newspaper also I will not being using any taboo language as this may cause issues for the paper as some of its readers may be offended.

Colour control objectives

Apple Products Review The colours I am going to use in this DPS are going to be bright energetic colours as this is similar to what professional magazines do, I also think using energetic colours for this article will suit the style of it. I am going to stick to the three colour rule in this double page spread, the three colours I am going to use in this article will be red, blue, and white this also match the front cover of my magazine. Everybody’s A Pirate Again in this article I am going to stick to the three colour pallet as I don’t want it to look like there is a lot going on, on the page as this is something which can put readers off easily especially ones in the same age group as my target audience. I have chosen to use red, white, and black as these colours all contrast well against each other. I have also chosen these colours, as it will suit the style of my article, which is quite a dark article what my audience should take seriously. Grand Theft Auto 5 review For this article I am going to use bright colours, which will catch my audiences eye, as this is something, which I will need to do in this article as title doesn’t really do that. I will be using blues and reds as they match the front cover of my magazine and will stand out well on a white background.

Typography objectives

Apple Products Review I will be using fonts which suit the genre of my magazine, ones which will draw my target audience in as well as giving the audience an incite to what the tone of my article is like as well as what it is about. Everybody’s A Pirate The font I am going to use in this article is a font, which will help connate what my article is about. The font I have chosen is one, which looks torn however, it still stands out well on the page and is very bold the font I am going to use is called ‘Pirate Zombie’. Grand Theft Auto 5 Review The font I am going to use in this article is the same as the one used for the cover of the game this will help tell my audience what this article is going to be about. This font is a very striking to the audience I think the colour of the font will also help draw the attention of my target audience.

This week I have achieved some of my targets. I have spent a lot of time this week doing research for my articles this research consisted of finding a range of source which have information on the topics which my article are on also these sources need to help me when it comes to writing my article. 

I have copied and pasted these links onto a word documents and commented on each one talking about some of the content which these articles have in them and I have also said how they are going to help me. While doing my research I have changed some of the content that I am going to put into my article and I think changing some of the content is going to make it more interesting for my readers. However I have only began to start writing one of my articles this is because I didn't expect to take as much time as I did doing research for them, this means that I am going to have to spend extra time on the weekend writing my articles and also taking another look at my already wrote article on Piracy. Shown below is a picture of the research I have been doing this week.    

I have briefly spoke to one my models about when they are going to be free this means that I can go on to book my photoshoot which I plan to complete by the first week of February. I have also looked at my props and I have found out that I will be able to get an iPhone 5S for my shoot however I still need to see if I will be able to use one of the college iMacs. Also I still need to speak to one of my models and organise a time when we are both free so that I can complete my photohoots as well as discussing what I will be expecting of him curing the shoot, I plan to speak to model before the end of the week.

I also didn't have enough time to take a look at fonts that I am going to be using in my magazine this is another thing which I am going to have to make some time for over the weekend to take a look at fonts this should help give me a brief idea of fonts that I could use.

1	13th Jan	1 Schedule Creation: This week I am going to create a schedule, in this schedule I am going to allocate time to specific areas of work that needs to be done so that I can hand in my final project on the 15th of February. The objectives I complete throughout the next few weeks should of already been outlined when creating my treatment also I will give myself 3 meaningful activities to do as homework these should take up four hours additional study time each week. 2 Schedule Creation: In todays lesson I am going to be creating my schedule, I will be allocating time to certain areas of work and documenting when this work is going to be done and how much time I will need to be able to complete it. Also in todays lesson I am going to look at my other A levels and what commitments I am going to have to make in order to complete coursework and reach other deadlines. 3 In this lesson I am going to spend time doing research for the content of the 2 articles I have not wrote these articles are reviews of Apple Products and Grand Theft Auto 5 I have chosen to do this first as it is an important piece of work which will need completing before I start to design my final products on InDesign. 4 Today I will spend 20 minuets on my project monitoring in this time I will analyze my progress and asses the standard of the work that I have completed throughout the week then I will be posting my progress onto my blog. Also in this lesson I will complete any final research what needs doing E.g. research for information that I will be putting in breakout boxes. This research needs doing so that I can begin to write my articles and I will also create an article plan, which will help give me some structure, when it comes to writing my articles. 2	20th Jan	1 In this lesson I will continue writing my Apple Products article, as it is the first DPS in my magazine, I will also be making sure that there isn’t anything else I could add to improve it. I will make sure I have included all-important information what I have found out from doing my research for this article. I am also going to take a look at my already existent article for my Piracy DPS and make sure there aren’t any adjustments I need to make. At the end of the day I will hand both of these articles in for marking. 2 Today I will spend time researching fonts for headlines, sell lines I am going to use in my magazine and I will also spend time downloading fonts that I already know I am going to be using when creating my product. I have decided to do this early on as it means I wont have to spend time finding and downloading fonts when coming to create my magazine. 3 Today I will plan when my models and I are free so that I can allocate time to book my photo-shoots. Also I will decide on what props I am going to need for my photo-shoots and also decide on how I am going to get these props as well as making sure I have them for the date of the photo-shoot. 4 In this lesson I am going to be looking at my project monitoring and documenting my progress as well as evaluating the level of my work I will then post this onto my blog. In this time I will take time to tell my models when and what time I will need them for my photo-shoots. 3	27stJan	1 In this lesson I will spend time setting up the page layout for my Apple Products double page spread. I will make sure the measurements of the pages are correct as well as setting up the margin and column guides correctly while doing this I will also be referring back to the flat plans I created. Also in this session I will be putting my finished articles onto the page. I have chosen to do this now as creating the page layout on InDesign can sometimes be tricky. 2 In this session I am going to be spending time looking at my Piracy double page spread. I will be going back to my feedback and seeing what they have said good and bad points these will help me make improvements to my page. Also I will have had feedback on my article for this double page spread and this will need updating on my page. This page is the more complicated than others e.g. front cover or contents page this is why I have chosen to create the layout of this page before others. 3 Today I am going to set up the layout for my third double page spread, which will be my Grand Theft Auto 5, review. Again I will be making sure that all measurements, guidelines, columns for the page are correct. This can be quite time consuming as if anything isn’t the right size I will have to start again to change the measurements of the page. 4 In this lesson I am going to be reviewing what I have done over the week and posting the progress I have made onto my blog. Also I will go back through each of my pages and make sure that they are all ready so that I can place my photos, articles, headlines, when I am ready. Homework 1: I will remind my models when my photo-shoots are and also make sure all the props I need will be ready. 4	3rd   Feb	1 I will carry on sub-editing for Apple Products article e.g. place in headers and kickers in correct fonts. 2 In this lesson I will be continuing with the sub-editing for my Grand Theft Auto 5 article. 3 Today I am going to design the page layout of my front cover I will be referring back to my flat plans when creating this part of my product. Also in this lesson I am going to decide on the headers and kickers I will be using, the fonts for these, colors I will be using as well as placing the image in from my photo-shoot.  4 I will be looking at what I have been doing in the past week and documenting what I have done and how I think it when I will be posting this onto my blog. In this lesson I am also going to continue with the sub editing of my front cover. Homework 1: Continue with sub-editing of my font cover. 5	10th  Feb	1 In this session I will be completing my first photo-shoot. In this shoot I plan to photograph a females model using an IPhone 5S this image will be used for my front cover also in this shoot I plan to take a image of an Apple computer and the IPhone 5S on its own these images will be used on my Apple Products DPS. This can be quite time consuming as I will have to make sure I take a range of images as this is my only opportunity to take these images. 2 Today I will be choosing what images I am going to use from my shoot on my front cover and double page spread. I will then edit the ones I will be using on my Apple Products double page if needs be. I will then begin to place them in along with my article, headlines, sell lines also I will continue with the sub-editing of the page. 3 In this session I plan to complete my second photo-shoot where I will be taking images of my model dressed like one of the characters on the Grand Theft Auto 5. After I have taken the images I will then upload and decide which ones I will be using in my project. As I am only taking photos for one page this shouldn’t take as long as my other shoot. 4 in this lesson I am going to upload all images I have taken in my   2 shoots to my blog and speak about how they shoot went, what images I have used and why. Also I will begin the sub-editing on my Grand Theft Auto 5 double page spread and my Apple Products review double page spread. Homework 1: Carry on sub-editing for Grand Theft Auto 5 DPS. 6	24th	1 in this lesson I will be going over the three double page spreads I have created Apple Products, Piracy, and Grand Theft Auto 5 review. I will make sure that I am happy with all my spreads and if any need some attention I will look at them and see what needs doing. 2 Today I will be looking at my contents page and finishing the sub-editing of it. 3 In this lesson I am going to pay attention to my front cover making sure all the headers and kickers are appropriate. As well as this I will be making sure I am happy with fonts, colors, images and the placing of all of these. 4 In this lesson I will be going through all of my pages and making sure I am happy with everything e.g. fonts used, images used, colors and if anything needs to be changed I will pay attention to certain pages.
